Brief
When Channel 4 decided to launch a radio station to rival those of other commercial operators and the BBC, they put Clock in charge of designing and building their website, which was to form a central role in obtaining their national commercial radio multiplex licence.
Clock was tasked with providing a scalable and robust technology platform to cater for high volumes of users driven by on and off-air advertising. The site had to be capable of withstanding huge spikes in traffic as users migrated from television messaging to gain access to exclusive content such as the Big Brother podcast.
Solution
Clock delivered a website which was able to meet Channel 4’s demanding traffic volume variations and technical requirements while looking (and sounding) good in the process. We designed the site to reflect the channel’s innovative and edgy approach to broadcasting, setting a new standard in radio interactivity.
Result
The site was a huge success with over 200,000 registered users and was a major factor in Channel 4’s successful licensing bid.
